Job Description:
Job Summary: Play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of technical documentation in accordance with FAA regulations and 21 Air standards of quality.
Essential Job Duties:
- Exercise discretion to review, analyze, and edit policies, procedures, and manuals for comprehension and provide improvement plans.
- Ensure that all requested changes received for each document revision are incorporated fully and correctly.
- Verify the validity of the Summary of Changes, List of Effective Pages, and all cross-references for each document.
- Analyze documents to maintain continuity of styles.
- Ensure adherence to ATA 100 Chapter assignments where applicable.
- Contribute to maintaining a comprehensive library of aviation terminology and documentation.
- Interface and coordinate in a professional manner with other departments to ensure compliance with manual owner requests and regulatory requirements.
- Promote and lead continuous improvement efforts of the Technical Publications department, including procedures, quality control, workflow, and tools.
- Demonstrate expertise in technical documentation methods and procedures in a positive manner.
- Mentor teammates for Technical Publications documentation and publications.
Secondary Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Technical Publications.
Requirements Job Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, or related field.
- Minimum six years’ experience as a technical writer or equivalent position(s).
- Alternate combinations of degree and experience may be acceptable.
- Excellent computer skills [MS Word, Windows environment, Internet browser].
- Must be fluent in English – read, write, speak and understand.
- Must have excellent oral, written, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be a team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Must be available for extra hours and/or to work a flexible schedule, as job requirements dictate.
Preferred:
- Ten years’ experience as a technical writer.
- Certified professional or has completed other formal demonstrated mastery of industry concepts practices and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of the ATA iSpec 2200 format.
- Thorough knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 119 and 121 FAA regulations, specifications, and related requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit and work effectively at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work assigned schedule with minimal absences.
