The Cockpit Operations Product Expert will act as the transversal authority across all cockpit-related products, ensuring operational excellence and user-centric design. This role requires deep expertise in cockpit operations, ideally from a background as a commercial pilot or aerospace engineer, combined with strong analytical and collaborative skills. You will bridge the gap between product teams and end-users (pilots, airlines), providing operational insights that shape product strategy, design, and validation.
This role is designed to pave the way for next-generation cockpit solutions, ensuring safety, efficiency, and operational relevance.
Operational Expertise & Product Integration
- Serve as the subject matter expert for cockpit operations across all product lines, including industry-leading applications such as SITA OptiFlight and SITA eWAS.
- Analyze operational scenarios and define concepts of operation for cockpit functions, ensuring alignment with airline workflows and regulatory standards.
- Validate cockpit-related features with end-user panels (pilots, training teams) and provide feedback to design and engineering teams.
User-Centric Design & Experience
- Champion human factors principles and pilot usability in all cockpit solutions.
- Collaborate with UX designers and product teams to ensure intuitive workflows, clear information hierarchy, and minimal cognitive load for pilots.
- Conduct usability testing and operational trials to validate design decisions and improve user experience.
- Translate operational insights into actionable design recommendations for cockpit interfaces and procedures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Managers, Engineering, and UX teams to ensure cockpit solutions meet operational and user experience needs.
- Coordinate transversal activities such as operational evaluations, lab tests, and flight trials.
Customer Engagement & Documentation
- Engage with airline customers and pilot communities to gather insights and validate assumptions.
- Contribute to customer-facing documentation, including operational guides, release notes, and training materials, ensuring clarity and usability.
Governance & Standards
- Support internal governance processes (roadmap reviews, investment boards) by providing cockpit operational perspectives.
- Ensure compliance with aviation safety standards and operational best practices.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years in airline operations, flight deck systems, or cockpit function design
- Commercial Pilot License (ATPL or CPL) or degree in Aerospace Engineering with strong exposure to flight operations.
- ICAO or EASA operational training certifications.
- Any certifications on Product Management or Agile development (Scrum, SAFe) will be a plus
- Strong understanding of Air Traffic Management (ATM), flight operations and avionics systems.
- Familiarity with trajectory-based operations, SESAR/FAA standards, and fuel efficiency management.
- Knowledge of EFB applications, datalink services, and cockpit connectivity.
- Proficiency with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Aha!, and SharePoint.
- Familiarity with customer journey mapping and user-centric innovation practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills in multi-cultural environments.
