Summary This position is responsible for identifying areas in need of 6S improvements, proposing plans for improvements and executing implementation of guarding, equipment, or apparatus related to 6S, safety, guarding, and equipment or process improvement Primary Responsibilities Evaluate operational areas using existing 6S, safety, and equipment or process specific audits Adhere to all safety and LOTO policies and procedures, leading by example for other plant personnel Design, build, and install guarding, equipment, or apparatus related to 6S, safety, guarding, and equipment or process improvement Coordinate and manager outside contractors, as needed, to support fabrication projects Audit on-site contractors on safety policy adherence when doing fabrication work Maintain inventory of raw materials used for continuous improvement projects Maintain workspace used for continuous improvement project activities to plant 6S standards Support other plant maintenance and continuous improvement activities as required Other duties as assigned. Education and experience - Required 5-7 years of design and fabrication experience in an industrial setting 5 years of experience reading blueprints or technical drawings Experience in a primary metal manufacturing setting Exposure/Experience with 6S standards, Lean manufacturing, industrial automation and guarding, and process improvement Exhibits excellent communication with multiple levels of technical and professional personnel Education and experience - Preferred Two-year associate’s degree in industrial maintenance, Fabrication or equivalent. Exposure/Experience in a variety of industries as a fabricator, machine repairer, or machine installer Experience leading teams of fabricators, millwrights, pipefitters, or other trades Journeyman qualification or equivalent apprenticeship/education Skills/Competencies Improvement-oriented mindset, shows initiative, generates improvement ideas. Ability to read and design blueprints, single line diagrams and other technical specifications. Ability to understand safety requirements, process flow, equipment layout, and flow of material Capable of executing welds in all positions, with various types of metals and alloys in various shapes including pipes, structural forms, plates, sheet metal, bar stock, machinery, and equipment; as well as, have experience in electric arc, gas shielded arc, and gas welding Ability to operate industrial equipment (forklift, scissor lift, etc.). Strong Project Management skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent troubleshooting skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk or sit; regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
