Responsible for ensuring the correct products are delivered to the correct location on time, to the quality required and in the most cost-effective way. Oversee the distribution and transportation of goods from the manufacture to the vendors. Plan and oversee the logistics process for the Wyman Gordon Houston site.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Process all shipments between Wyman Gordon Houston and vendors or customers.
- Responsible for reviewing packaging, loading, and shipment of all products.
- Monitor quality, quantity, delivery times and transportation costs.
- Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation and logistics providers.
- Recommend optimal transport modes, routes or frequency.
- Ensure carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery.
- Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, imports or exports or customer issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimization opportunities.
- Ensure the integrity of inventory accuracy and manage stock movements with the help of direct reports.
- Manage, coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
- Ensure that all functions under supervision operate in accordance with health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of direct reports.
Requirements and Education/ Experience
- Minimum high school education with five years shipping or logistics experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Business or Supply Chain Management from an accredited university with two years of experience
- Prior experience working in logistics/supply chain/transportation function in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Prior experience with managing or working alongside Union IAM members desired
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
- ERP systems/Oracle knowledge is a plus
- Highly skilled communicator with the ability to form and maintain good relationships internally and externally.
- Strong planning and organization skills with ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines each day.
- US citizenship is required due to government military contracts
- Must be able to lift 50lbs if needed.
- Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment which includes but is not limited to steel toe boots, protective eye-wear, hard hat and ear protection.
