CUT OFF OPERATOR LEAD

Leads are intended to be “working leads” in that they are expected to carry out their normal job title functions with some modifications by their supervisor. The additional responsibilities of the lead are generally defined by the supervisor and typically include the following:

  • Champion Safety and 6S Initiatives
  • Hold team accountable for following all policies and procedures, including safety and quality
  • Prioritize workflow and keep key parts moving for TP plan or LTPO recovery
  • Demonstration of excellent communication skills
  • Answer questions regarding the processing of parts
  • Verify daily staffing and report any staffing issues/needs to Supervisor
  • Assign work to operators
  • Assess training needs and coordinate training as needed
  • Move operators to different job assignments that they are qualified to perform
  • Stop the work of operators, if appropriate (in the absence of a supervisor)
  • Audit the quality and quantity of work performed by operators
  • Provide input to Supervisors regarding operator punctuality, tardiness, and other aspects of overall performance
  • Assume responsibility of routine operations in a Supervisor’s absence
  • May be required to handle or manage hazardous waste
  • May be required to complete hazardous waste management training
  • Must be able to handle all processes within the department

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Position supports the manufacturing process by removing shell material from cast molds. Removing the pour cup, separating the individual part from the mold by method of oxy/acetylene torch cutting. Sorts and segregates scrap material by alloy type.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prepare molds for removal of pour cup, by utilizing forklift, hand held air guns, hammers, and/or jackhammer.
  2. Operate Waterblast cabinet, to aid in removal of shell material from molds.
  3. Utilize an oxy/acetylene-cutting torch to separate part(s) from the mold.
  4. Operate a variety of belt grinders, or hand held air grinders, to assist in gate removal from casting.
  5. Utilize a Tannewitz friction cutting bandsaw, to remove gating and/or test material from molds/parts.
  6. Operate a shotblast cabinet, and a sandblast cabinet to remove shell material from inside pocket areas, or hard to access areas.
  7. Use of dimensional measuring equipment required when performing certain cut-off operations.
  8. Responsible for safe work practices by adhering to safety rules, safely operating all equipment and tools identifies and reports safety problems.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and work well with limited supervision.
  2. Ability to pay close attention to detail on all learned skills.
  3. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to co-workers and supervisor.
  4. Ability to work with hands and posses a good mechanical ability.
  5. Ability to work in a safe and conscientious manner; adhere to safety rules.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience operating a cutting torch, and hand held power tools is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to work with hand and power tools. Must be able to write, climb stairs, stoop, and reach to perform daily job functions. Ability to exert up to thirty-five lbs of force to lift and move molds from the cooling table into the waterblast cabinet, and sandblast cabinets.
