Position Summary:
The School of Aviation in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for one 12-month fiscal, term, non-tenure appointment within the Aviation Flight program beginning July 1, 2025. Applications are continually evaluated, with the first review beginning March 1, 2025. A comprehensive benefit package including health insurance, retirement options and tuition waiver is provided. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the Director with academic, administrative, and fiscal matters for the Flight program
- Teach one aviation course per semester
- Coordinate and administer undergraduate instructional curriculum to enhance learning outcomes
- Ensure faculty excellence through effective recruitment, retention, and evaluation of personnel
- Assist in preparing, with faculty input, annual workload assignments and merit evaluations
- Maintain effective recruitment, retention, and degree completion rates of students enrolled in the flight program
- Promote alumni relations
- Conduct business and activities in compliance with applicable laws and policies of SIU
- Provide direct supervision of the FAR Part 145 repair station, line service, flight operations, FAA testing center, and executive transportation units.
- Oversee and evaluate and direct the airworthiness of light raining aircraft including planning for and coordinating aircraft purchase and equipment upgrades.
- Receive and review safety recommendations from the Aviation Flight Safety Officer in accordance with SMS
- Supervise and evaluate the Part 141 Chief Flight instructor.
- To engage in professional service activities related to aviation flight.
- To participate in program, school, college, and university service activities.
- To engage in duties as assigned by the School Director.
Salary:
This position is proposed as a 12-month Faculty position with a minimum salary of $7,000 per month, commensurate with experience.
