POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Inspector is responsible for the overall operation and compliance for inspection and non-destructive testing by ensuring that all inspections are properly performed on all completed work before it is released to the customer, and that the proper inspection records, reports, and forms used by this repair station are properly executed.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Assists, supervises and directs all personnel assigned to inspection and nondestructive testing.
  • Collects and maintains a file on work orders and inspection forms in such a manner that the specific file pertaining to an assembly or unit can be located within a reasonable length of time.
  • Performs periodic checks on inspection tools and precision test equipment.
  • Develops and maintains a system of keeping records of checks and calibration of inspection tools and precision test equipment within the required calibration period.
  • Executes FAA Form 337 and the maintenance release pertinent to all items released to service by the repair station.
  • Supervises preliminary, hidden damage, inspection continuity, and final inspection of all items processed repair station.
  • Executes and submits Service Difficulty Reports as required.
  • Ensures that rejected and unserviceable parts, after proper identification, are returned to the customer, or with the customers permission, are properly disposed of.
  • Maintains “Roster of Management, Supervisory and Inspection Personnel” in a current state.
  • Ensures that all materials subject to shelf life are properly controlled and inspected on a regular basis and removed from service when the shelf life expires.
  • Maintains and makes available a current library of all required maintenance manuals, service bulletins, service letters, airworthiness directives, FAA regulations, etc.
  • Establishes and administers a corrective action system to identify quality problems and bring about their prompt, satisfactory resolution.
  • Prepares information for submission for the FAA, including updates on the repair station’s capabilities.
  • Performs review inspections on aircraft and components to monitor the quality of work performed and the adequacy of standards and equipment.
  • Performs occasional/random work package audits to ensure that documentation is maintained in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Directs the performance of “self-audits” of internal quality systems, at the request of the customer.
  • Assists in preparing budgets and manpower forecasts.
  • Analyzes and interprets quality data in order to develop methods, procedures, and systems to improve the Quality Assurance functions.
  • Performs special assignments and projects, as directed by the Director-Quality Assurance.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Aviation.
  • License Required: A&P License.

Experience:

  • Generally 5-7 years’ experience in inspection and certification of aircraft products.
  • Experience with aerospace quality systems that meet FAA requirements.
  • Experience working with and interpreting, precision measurement instruments.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of safety and operating procedures for power-on aircraft.
  • Follows FAA regulations & safety protocols.
  • Understanding use of hand tools and precision instruments.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a safe and professional manner.
  • Effectively manage others while ensuring quality work.
  • Performs inspections on aircraft systems, parts/components.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Lotus Notes, company policies and procedures.

Working Conditions / Environment/ Special Requirements

  • Able to work flexible hours and different shifts if required.
  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
  • As required by the position, must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 "Respirator Protection" regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
  • Subject to an annual vision test.
  • Employees are subject to the FAA/Drug/Alcohol program.
