The Allegheny County Airport Authority’s Environmental Internship position will an opportunity to gain experience in areas of environmental compliance, water systems, and sustainability at Pittsburgh International Airport and Allegheny County Airport. The intern will receive hands-on experience in environmental compliance by participating in field inspections, reporting, and exposure to various permits and regulations in areas such as stormwater, waste, and air. The intern will also experience development of sustainability programs and initiatives. Lastly, the intern will gain exposure in environmental management of deicing systems and drinking water programs.
Here is how the Environmental Intern will help:
- Participate in environmental compliance inspections, such as aboveground storage tanks, dams and basins, water system infrastructure, and erosion and sedimentation control construction projects.
- Update and maintain various Environmental Systems field features in GIS.
- Assist and participate in semi-annual and annual National Preparedness for Response Exercise Program spill prevention drills.
- Coordinate and support various field efforts throughout airport property in areas including drinking water, deicing operations, and waste management.
- Supporting drinking water program data management and reporting.
- Collaborate on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) sustainability initiatives and support implementation.
- Participate in Sustainability Committee Meetings and identify potential projects.
- Support waste diversion initiatives and education, compost and recycling programs.
- Assist with Airport Carbon Accreditation program planning and development.
- Data management and analysis.
- Quality review of environmental plans, documents, and reports for data tracking.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.
Qualifications
Requirements to apply for role of Environmental Intern are:
- Must currently be enrolled in school as a second year (or above) undergraduate from an accredited four-year college or university in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Must maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or greater.
- Possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid driver’s license. Note: License must be maintained throughout employment.
