Northrop Grumman AW sector is hiring a Mass Property and Material Engineer. This person will have major responsibilities with partial Material Process (M&P) Engineer and opportunity to join our Mechanical Engineering team of qualified, diverse individuals in located in Northridge, CA.
This position mainly performs mass properties functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, and mass properties requirements allocation studies to translate customer, product or derived mass properties requirements into hardware and software specification requirements. Analyzes, researches and tests system hardware and conditions for optimal mass properties system solutions. Tools utilized may include solid modeling tools, database tools and standard office applications.
This individual will contribute to the Mass Properties team supporting the achievement of program requirements. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Supporting the implementation of a Mass Properties Management and Control Program
Accurate estimating and optimizing of mass properties to achieve vehicle performance and fulfill weight based program metrics
Establishing specification and design target weights
Support the maintenance of the Mass Properties accounting and reporting systems to inform the customer and management of current and projected mass properties trends
Providing mass properties data for cost analyses and vehicle design and analysis
Evaluating subcontractor proposals, interacting with and overseeing subcontractor mass properties management and control
Reviewing drawings to achieve mass properties management and control
Measuring/weighing vehicle and/or components to increase vehicle weight estimate accuracy
Providing mass properties data in support of operational flight manual
Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production sealants & coatings issues OR metallic issues
Generates test plans & reports
Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems
Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes OR metallic processing specifications, fabrication and associated assembly processes
Develops, analyzes & applies material properties; design allowable/processing processes and quality engineering specifications
Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications
Perform drawing reviews to ensure M&P requirements are satisfied
May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures
May travel to subcontractor locations
Basic Qualifications for a level 2 role:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 2 year of Mass Property or relevant experience
Experience with Mass Property weight and balance analysis
Experience with Material Process
Ability to obtain and maintain US Secret security clearance
Basic Qualifications for a level 3 role:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5 years of Mass Property or relevant experience
Experience with Mass Property weight and balance analysis
Experience with Material Process
Ability to obtain and maintain US Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Aircraft Weight and Balance Certification
Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS) experience
Experience in Missile Design and manufacturing techniques
Simens NX or CREO or CATIA proficiency
Familiarity with a Common Product Lifecycle Management system such as SmarTeam or Teamcenter
Experience in welding, surface finishing, and NDI of metals
Experience with two phase thermal control systems
Experience with bonding and polymeric materials
Technical writing skills

Salary Range: $81,300 - $121,900
Salary Range 2: $100,300 - $150,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
